Those of you with G37 sports seats may have noticed that the thigh bolsters are a little tight. A little research has yielded that the USDM and JDM seats are the same size. So Nissan/Infiniti probably designed them more for the small statured Japanese businessman instead of the larger statured American. You HAD two options:
-Lose some weight (hopefully your frame isn’t too wide)
-Deal with the lack of comfort
Here’s a third option…
The G37 sports seats have small steel support braces on the thigh bolsters. These braces are 1″ x 6″ steel plates that are welded to the seat frame and push against the bolsters (and your thighs) to hold you like a hot dog in a tiny bun.
Removing the braces allows for a more comfortable seat bottom and will not affect the seat’s structure. This should be a “stealth” mod and you will only notice it when you sit in the seat and enjoy the comfort.
In order to remove the braces, you must remove the seat and the lower upholstery (Be sure to place the seat on a soft surface to prevent leather damage). Cut the braces off of the frame, then reassemble.
The result will be a lower seat that is very comparable to the non-sports seat, with comfortable thigh support and the added support of the upper bolsters.
For those of you who aren’t comfortable removing your seats and tearing them apart, contact your local auto upholstery shops. Ask them if they have experience removing the bolster braces off of G37s or other sports cars (This is a common Porsche mod).
