NICOfest at Miller Motorsports Park, Salt Lake City Utah – June 28th & 29th, 2008
For the 2nd year in a row, NICOFEST returned to GT Live at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT for an event filled weekend. This year, we decided to join the folks at UtahNissans.com in the fan festival. Nissan Sport Magazine also showed up, and together the Nissan following at GT Live out-shined all other fan festivals.
While UtahNissans held a raffle and took up donations for the Girls and Boys Club of America Charity, NICO sold calendars and t-shirts and donated the money to the cause as well. UtahNissans also grilled up some food for all the Nissan enthusiasts, and Nissan Sport Magazine was signing people up with subscriptions.
Although the fan festivals at GT Live are fun, the real action is the Motorsports events. GT Live is action-packed all weekend, with events such as Auto X, Redline Time Attack, Tarzan’s Lap Battle, and Drifting. Cobb Tuning was the focus of attention in the Time Attack, as they attempted to break the course record in their tuned R35 GTR. Verena Mei also showed her talent in her M-Workz 350Z as she continuously improved on her time throughout the weekend.
The Formula D Licensing event brought out lots of talent; however only a few cars seemed to really stand out. The car and talent that seemed to stand out the most was our very own Joe DiNunzio’s LS1 powered S14. Joe was one of the few drivers who were able to link all the turns together and stay on the correct line that the judges were looking for.
As always, the highlight of the weekend was meeting fellow Nissan enthusiasts. This is always the most rewarding and fun part of any event we do. Saturday night we enjoyed a nice relaxing night in downtown Salt Lake City where we met up with a few of the guys from UtahNissans as well as Art Singer from Nissan Sport Magazine, and had dinner and a few beers at the Red Rock Brewery. Food was excellent, and we had a great time as we exchanged stories of getting pulled over by the police.
It was a great time overall, and we look forward to next year!
