Background:
I grew up in a military family and enjoyed seeing the world courtesy of the USMC. East coast, west coast, Hawaii (twice), very brief stays on Midway Island and Wake Island. A year on Kwajalein, (Marshall Islands) even 3 weeks in Japan.
I've always liked cars, and one way or another, have been the proud owner of no fewer than 33 of the beasts. The favorites would include a 1978 280Z that I'd give anything to have back. And a 1968 Mercury Montego 302 4bbl coupe. That car was great. I have a soft spot for Nissan because they all seem to come with a personality. Now, (2008) I've got a new G35 Journey. It will probably end up on my very short list of my favorite cars.
I've owned probably 2 dozen motorcycles, from a 100cc Yamaha to a 900cc Kawasaki, and a slew of motocross bikes in between. Most of the 2 dozen were off road bikes. I loved riding in the desert and enjoyed organized desert racing with a 400 Husqvarna.
That hobby gave way to flying, which led to buying my first airplane. A 1966 Piper PA28-140. I flew that for about a year and sold it in favor of beautiful (used) red white and blue Cessna 172 Skyhawk. Flying got boring after I saw everything within a day or two of Montgomery field, (San Diego) and the Skyhawk was sold. The idiot who bought her ran her out of fuel and wrapped her around a power pole a few years later. He survived, she didn't.
When I was a pup, I built and raced a Chevy 283 at Palomar Raceway in SoCal. A 283 was a great motor to learn on. It's almost impossible to destroy, even to a kid with a Sears 60 piece tool kit, and 2 years of auto shop. My tool kit has grown over the years, and they now reside in a nice Kennedy roll around that sits, getting dusty in the garage.
I found Nico looking for info on the Infiniti G35. It didn't take long to see that the guys who frequent Nico, especially the G forums, are a tight band of misfits, exactly what I needed. I've gotten to know most of them and they are, without exception, are great individuals (and family).
One day I woke up and logged on to Nico and saw the Moderators forum. No notice, no warning, no condolences. After I figured out it wasn't a mistake, and we actually had my long requested Politics forum, things were good again. Stop by that forum and enjoy a good discussion.
The last of the kids has moved out, taking the 06 Mustang GT with her. Now, it's time to look for a new hobby. Right now, I'm considering sailing, as I live a few miles from the Oceanside Harbor, or a new Harley FXDF Fat Bob. Unfortunately my wife is against both. She is back in school, 3 semesters into an accounting degree, and wants no distractions. That leaves me and Roxy, our 8 ½ yr old dog, looking for trouble to get into most of the time. Any suggestions in this regard would be appreciated.
