Chano was born and raised in Southern California. He got his start with cars early as his father would employ him as his assistant when working on their own cars. At the age of 12, he was allowed to tinker with the stereo system in their spare car. He received his first car, a 1983 Toyota Celica GT-S, at age 16. Shortly thereafter, he learned what redline was and never looked back. It was lightly modded over the next 3 years but eventually succumbed to a differential and transmission failure. In his search for a rear wheel drive coupe, he stumbled upon a 1991 Nissan 240SX. The Nissan bug bit. This car consisted mostly of suspension mods, and eventually was traded in for a 1998 Nissan 240sx. Having learned a lot about 240’s with the S13, carefully started selecting parts to use to modify the S14. A couple close friends got themselves Twin Turbo Supras and he began some turbo work with them and eventually turbocharged his S14 with an XS-Engineering Turbo Kit. Eventually it was traded for a 04 G35 Coupe. It was sold after 2 years of ownership and he purchased a 1995 Nissan Maxima to drive while he decided what to get next. A 350Z was high on the list, but he now owns a 2004 Nissan Titan Crew Cab which he hopes to be able to use as a toy hauler. He will be looking to get into another sports car within the next few years.

Chano finds himself eager to learn about anything technical. Whether it is engines, suspensions, stereos, TV’s, game consoles, paintball guns or computers, he enjoys tinkering. No broken electronics in his family goes into a trash can without first being opened up. Chano credits his father, who worked as an appliance repairman, maintenance man and air conditioner serviceman for dragging him around to worksites, which ultimately inhibited any fears about trying to repair or modify just about anything.

Chano originally entered the online car community in the late 90’s first with the 240sx mailing list. While reluctant to move to a forum based community after being on an e-mail list for so long, he found himself immersed in NICO as he began to share knowledge and ideas with fellow NICO members. He’s called it home ever since.
