Foster has been a NICO member since 2002, and has been interested in
cars for as long as he can remember. Completed at age 14, his first
project was a custom go-kart constructed of his family's 5 horsepower
lawn mower engine, a rusty frame found in a junkyard, and various parts
off of a friend's riding lawnmower. While the project was never truly
finished, the endeavor sparked within Foster an urge to create: to solve
problems and experience the exhilaration and pride that can only be
found through personal victory over increasingly complex automotive
challenges.
Constantly learning, Foster truly enjoys challenging himself with new
and different situations. While his eagerness to try things out for
the first time very often gets him into mechanical and financial trouble,
Foster remains determined, still excited by the unknown even in the
face of often inevitable consequences. This determination, despite its
costs, has produced some incredible results. His first full scale project:
a 1993 Nissan 240sx custom built from the ground up and turbocharged,
has recently dynoed an impressive 430 horse/410 torque to the rear wheels.
The knowledge required for this build-up, Foster proudly admits, came
almost entirely from the NICO community over which he now moderates.
In addition to his automotive accomplishments, Foster has completed
a Bachelors of Arts in psychology and philosophy at Boston University,
and is currently working full time as an Emergency Medical Technician
while he completes his applications to medical school. Foster hopes
to someday work as a physician in emergency medicine, a career that
he believes he has been preparing for through the ingenuity and steadfast
determination that his automotive projects have required. All the while,
he remains dedicated to NICO, a community that both fostered his growth
as a technician, and helped fashion the person that he is working to
become.
