240sx:J30 VLSD install in a 95 240sx

Here we go, As all of you know that we just finished installing a VLSD from a 95 Infiniti J30 into my car.

Here is all the information you will need. I will try to write up as detailed information as I can possibily can…then I will post the pictures of the install and put the captions under them to explain them.

It is true that IF you have a 95+ 240sx and you get a 95+ J30 diff, you DO NOT need to do any modification what so ever to your car at all!!! regardless weather you do or do not have ABS.

Yes, the J30 diff is about quarter of an inch longer because of the ABS sensor but it does not matter. Fits perfectly.

Since you have the diff on the side, it is a good idea to change the fluid in the diff. The fluild in my J30 diff was very dirty so I’m glad I changed it. I used 75-90W Moblie 1 gear oil. People say use Redline.. i could not find it so I used Mobile 1… it still is one of the best..

I also put LSD additive in the diff. It comes in a tube like thing, you can get it from any auto part store. it’s a good thing to add that as well.

Next… Jack up the rear end of the car and put it on jacks! (duh) 🙂

before you do anything, just slide under the car and just take a look at what you have to do. There are 4 bolts holding the Drive Shaft to the diff. 2 bolts on the front bottom of the diff holding it up the the frame of the car. 2 bolts on the rear of the diff holding it steady. And finally 6 bolts on each axles…

IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE THE SERVICE MANUAL FOR THE TORQUE SPECS!!!
If you do not have one.. e-mail me and I can get a hold of the specs for you.. One of the guys brought it down for me and it was a great help!!!

Next take all the bolts off the axles and slowly take the bolts off the rear of the diff and under the diff…

make sure you have a jack under the diff… pry the diff out of it’s place…. this will be very tough to do since the axles have a cone thing coming out of it which goes inside of the flanges of the diff…. TAKE YOUR TIME!!!

Once you have the diff out of the place.. do all of that in reverse to put the J30 diff back in!!!

It is very very simple to do, you just have to take your time. Don’t try to hurry up and you will be fine. The drive shaft bolted up perfectly like it was supposed to go there.

One thing was that I have Dual N1’s and for some reason the DS sits a little lower than stock and so it was rubbing on my resonator and so I had to lowe my exhaust down about half an inch or so… other than that.. it is perfect..

After driving it for 3 days… the car feels great… it does have a little slower acceleration due to the high gearing but over all it is much faster because you are putting all that power to the ground.. This is defnetly biggest bang for your buck!!! I recomend getting one ASAP!!!

now for the pictures…. ***please do not post untill I have posted all the pictres***

A special thank you goes out to DAEDALUS.. the Infiniti Online Tech..he is the one in the red shirt… he helped me out with the whole thing!!!!!! and thank you for everyone else who was there helping me hold the diff and stuff!!!! much appriciated it.. 🙂
