How to Install Sequential Turn Signals

This article shows you how to install Oznium Orange flexible LED strips to be used as sequential turn signals on your Nissan Altima.

Ok Guys and Girls, I had to do it! Especially since I told LBC about it. The whole process takes about 4 hours to do. Probably less but since I was technically "working" from home, I had to do this project in the middle of conference calls, answering emails and other work related stuff. I’m quite happy with the end result and I think you guys will be too! Let’s get started!

This is what you’ll need to do this:
6 – Oznium Orange flexible LED strips 4.7"

2 – Sequential Turn signal kit

8 sets Solderless connectors (male and female)
4 wire taps
Extra 12 gauge wire
zip ties
dielectric grease

Slit /Spiral loom and zip tie holders

Wax / Adhesive Remover

And a Dremel … I think everyone here knows what a dremel looks likes so no pic for this one.

Start off by taking off the Fascia. Underneath the headlights, there is a wire loom that contains the wires for the turn, park and headlights, open the loom and locate the following wires.

Passenger Side wires:Right turn signal – Grn / Silver tracerRight park light – Grn / Red tracer – for LED running lights

Driver Side wires Left turn signal – Grn / yellow tracerLeft park light – Grn / Black tracer – for LED running lights

Starting on the passenger side, open the loom and find the turn signal wires above. When you find them, separate them from the rest. Next you want to mount the sequential modules. I mounted them at the front corner of the bumper with a zip tie.

Next, connect the ground to a good ground point. I chose the bracket that supports the headlight. You’ll need to use a small piece of black wire and a wire tap and tap into the black wire from the module. Attach a solderless connector at the end and label it "G".

Next, take a small red wire and slice that into the left side signal wire (grn/silver). I soldered mine and taped it. Should look like this:

The other side of the red wire should go into the tap that is on the red wire from the module similar to what you did with the ground wire.

Attach solderless connectors on the red, white, and blue wires and label them accordingly. When you’re done, go to the other side and repeat the process again.

Once you’ve done that, it’s off to mounting the flexible LED strips to the bumper! Clean it of thoroughly with water, and then use the Wax / Adhesive cleaner. Let it air dry.

Attach the strips so they look like this:

Then take the dremel and drill a hole big enough for the wire to go through about a 1" from the end of where the wire is located on the strip. You’ll be doing 6 holes total.

In the picture where the three wires meet, I attached one of those zip tie holders and pulled the wires a little taught and zip tied them in place. Make sure you clean off the area with the cleaner before attaching the zip tie holder. Now cut the wire to length. Make sure you have enough slack to unhook the wire when you need to take off the fascia. Put the connector ends on it and tidy it up with the split loom.

When attaching the connector, make sure you do the following:

The Red wire will attach to the inside strip, the white to the middle, and the Blue to the outside strip. Mark the connectors accordingly so you don’t get confused when you connect those wires to the module. Also make sure to use the dielectric grease inside the connectors to protect it from corrosion.

When you’re done, re-attach the fascia, and sit back. Grab a beer and enjoy the light show. This is how it looks in the day. I had the camera propped up on a roll of fiberglass to shoot it. It’s actually brighter in person than it is in the video!

And here it is at night Those strips are crazy bright!!!

One more little Tid Bit, You’ll need to paint your Signal bulbs black.I used blk ceramic heat paint (2 coats and 3 coats of blk epoxy paint) Both readily available at your local lowes / home depot.If you try to do this mod without the bulbs, the LEDs will signal too fast thus not using the outside LED strip.They do make some kind of load balancer that “tricks” the electrical system into thinking that there is an incandescent bulb when there really isn’t, but painting the bulbs will work out as well. Becarefull when inserting the bulbs back into the housing though. It’s a tight fit and if you scratch the paint, you’ll see it at night when you use your signal.
