King Racing – New bearing designs for Nissan applications!

As race engines evolve, and become more and more powerful, the need for engine bearings that can withstand the increasingly higher load capacity on these higher power engines is needed. Focusing on sport compact applications, King Racing has developed the following features that ensure their XP series rod and main bearings can perform under the highest stress and maintain the level of durability and performance they are known for. As part of the sport compact range expansion, King is offering new items for Nissan including the Nissan GTR VR38DETT (Scroll down for the full list of Nissan bearing applications).

pMAX Black™ – This unique tri-metal bearing structure was developed to meet the ongoing demand for increased engine bearing load capacity. The intermediate layer uses a copper based alloy with 4.5% tin for added strength that is the strongest in the industry, at 115 HV. This gives the bearing a load capacity of 17,000 psi in the intermediate! The overlay is also 24% stronger because of a 5% copper alloy with a fatigue resistance of 10,200 psi, 17% more than a standard bearing. King’s SecureBond™ etching process also improves the multi-layer adhesion and structural integrity of the bearing.

U-Groove™ – This is a 90° groove shape used on King Bearings. By using a 90° groove as opposed to a chamfered groove, the effective surface area of the bearing is increased. That in turn, increases the bearing load capacity and gives a better load distribution across the surface of the bearing. It also makes the bearing more durable at higher RPMs and provides a more stable hydrodynamic lubrication regime.

Bull’s Eye Tolerance™ – King’s standard for bearing thickness consistency has set new standards in the industry. Not only is there less taper across the bearing surface, but with King bearings, there is no need to purchase multiple sets of bearings to get the right clearance, no need to grind cranks, and no need to adjust housing diameter.

ElliptiX™ – This newly designed oil slot improves oil ingress without affecting the bearing’s surface or compromising the load capacity. With the unique oil slot shape, oil passage capacity is increased to allow for higher oil supply. Custom oil-hole enlargement that can compromise load capacity is no longer needed for increased oil supply.

RadiaLock™ – To prevent spun bearings, King has developed a unique process to customize each bearing’s crush height to meet its specific performance demands. Not only does this create an optimal press fit, but it also allows for better heat transfer while reducing bearing and housing distortion.

EccentriX™ – By using elasto-hydrodynamic analysis, an optimized eccentricity value for each bearing is reached and the bearing is custom designed using this value to meet specific performance requirements. This process reduces bearing vibration, wear and optimizes the load distribution across the bearing’s surface. By designing the bearing with this in mind, a more stable hydrodynamic lubrication regime is reached.

With XP series bearings now available for popular sport compact engines, there’s no reason to look elsewhere when building a performance engine.
