The History of the Nissan Versa Models

Model History:

The Nissan Versa was introduced in the U.S. in June 2006 as an all-new model to the North American market.  The Versa / Tiida B-platform is sold in North America, Japan, Europe, and other Overseas Markets, with the largest market in North America (USA).  The Versa development emphasized comfort and usability in a compact package, with styling cues from a Murano inspired front and 350Z inspired rear.  The engine in the Versa is the MR18 and has ‘Best in Class’ standard horsepower/torque rating at 122HP / 127 lb-ft torque.  Combined with a spacious 17.8 cubic foot cabin and excedptional rear leg room, the Versa utilizes every inch of its dimensions to the fullest potential.  The 2007 Nissan Versa wins Consumers Digest’s “Best Buy Award”.

2008 Model:

The 2008 Versa returns in its second year after a successful first year introduction.  It is available in two trim levels again, the 1.8S and 1.8SL, and offered in Hatchback and Sedan versions.  The 2008 Nissan Versa wins Consumers Digest’s “Best Buy Award” for the second year in a row.  Styling remains the same inside and out with minor changes to the options and paint colors.  Only the changes from the 2007 models are listed.

General Model Changes

  • A Sport Package is offered for the 1.8SL Sedan model
  • ASCD becomes a stand-alone option for the 1.8S trim level
  • The 1.8SL trim 6-speed manual transmission is removed from the Sedan
  • The Sedan 1.8SL changes trim from a CVT to the 4-speed Automatic Transmission
  • The Sedan 1.8S door waist molding changes from chrome to black
  • The 1.8S trim emblems are removed
  • The Instrument Panel Soft Pad on the 1.8SL trim level is deleted
  • Sirius Satelliet Radio option is deleted
  • Satellite pre-wire is removed from convenience package
  • Audio package and Satellite Radio are now sold together on 1.8SL Hatchback models
  • Sonoma Sunset (Paint Code A15) is not offered with Beige cloth interior anymore
  • Red Alert (Paint code A20) is not offered with Beige cloth interior anymore
  • Sandstone (Paint Code K32) is offered with Charcoal cloth interior
  • Aluminum Kick Plates are offered as an accessory
  • Splash Guards become optional for 1.8SL trim
  • The i-Pod accessory is offered on 1.8SL with Satellite Radio
  • Electric Compass Mirror is offered as an accessory
  • Interior Accent Lighting is offered as an accessory

2009 Model:

The 2009 Versa returns in its third year after two solid years of production.  It is available in five trim levels: Hatchback is available in two trim levels, 1.8 S and 1.8 SL and the Sedan available in three trim levels, 1.6, 1.8 S, and 1.8 SL).  The 2009 Nissan Versa wins Consumers Digest’s “Best Buy Award” for the third year in a row, AutoPacific’s “2008 Ideal Vehicle Award for Economy Car”, receives the highest possible IIHS ratings, and is named a “Top 10 Least Expensive Vehicles to Own” by ForbesAutos.com.  Styling remains the same inside and out with minor changes to the options and no changes to the exterior paint colors.  Only the changes from the 2008 models are listed.

General Model Changes

The 1.6 liter 4-cylinder Versa Sedan model is released in January 2009 with a five-speed manual transmission

  • The Hatchback SL Model with manual transmission is deleted
  • The Sport Package for the Sedan SL model is deleted
  • The SL CVT model is renamed “Versa FE+ 1.8 SL”
  • 15″ alloy wheels are added as an option on the 1.8S model with automatic tranmission
  • Power Automatic Door Locks added as an option to 1.8S models with Power Package (standard on 1.8SL models)
  • Exterior color Sonoma Sunset (paint code A15) changes to Red Brick (paint code NAC) and is available only on 1.8 Sedan models
  • Exterior color Sapphire Blue (paint code B14) changes to Metallic Blue (paint code B17) and is available only on Hatch models
  • Exterior color Sandstone (paint code K32) changes to Sonoran Sand (paint code HAB) and is available only on 1.8 Sedan models
  • Exterior color Arctic Blue (paint code RAF) is available only on Hatchback models
  • A limited paint code color availablity is added for 1.6 Sedan models:  B23, K23, KH3, QM1 with Charcoal Interior Only
  • Rear-seat trunk pass-through is deleted from Sedan model

The 1.6L Sedan model has these differences to the 1.8L Sedan model

  • 1.6 L DOHC 107 HP (111 lb-ft) 16-valve 4-cylinder engine
  • Engine Cover deleted
  • 185/65R14 all-season tires
  • 14″ steel wheels w/ full wheel covers
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • Black (not body color) manual folding sideview mirrors
  • Black (not body-color) door handles
  • Black decklid finisher (chrome deleted)
  • Black grill (chrome trim deleted)
  • Silver accent removed from: Instrument Panel, Door lock switches, and Shifter finisher
  • Suede-tricot cloth on seats and door trim is changed to cloth
  • Front and rear kick plates are deleted
  • Trunk lid inside trim is deleted
  • Power rear trunk release is deleted
  • Passenger-side covered visor vanity mirror is different
  • Cargo area courtesy light is deleted
  • 4-speaker 120-watt audio system with AM/FM/CD and integrated digital clock (normally 6-speaker 180-watts)

The 1.6L Base Sedan has this difference to the 1.6L Sedan

  • Air Conditioning with in-cabin microfilter is deleted

 

2010 Model:

The 2010 Versa returns in its fourth year after three years of production and numerous awards won.  It is available in five trim levels: Hatchback is available in two trim levels, 1.8 S and 1.8 SL and the Sedan available in three trim levels, 1.6, 1.8 S, and 1.8 SL.  Overall styling remains the same inside with minor updates to the options, exterior trim, and exterior paint colors.  Only the changes from the 2009 models are listed.

General Model Changes

  • Navigation / XM Satellite Radio Package is added
  • Power and Cruise is combined into “Power Plus Package”
  • Moonroof Package is available on Hatchback only
  • Audio package is deleted
  • XM Satellite Radio is offered with Navigation
  • Sport Package is no longer offered as an option
  • Sport Front & Rear Bumpers, Body-color Side Sills, and Rear spoiler are added to Hatchback SL models
  • Front Grille re-designed
  • 15″ Wheel Cover and Alloy design changed
  • New 16″ Alloy Wheel design available on Hatchback SL models
  • Fog Lights offered standard on Hatchback SL models
  • Electric trunk lid release is optional Sedan 1.8S trim models
  • 60/40 Rear Center Seatbelt now includes connection plate on Sedan SL models
  • Gauge appearance changes to more 3-D and with white illumination
  • Interior illumination changed to reddish orange color
  • Removeable cargo cover for Hatchback is deleted on 1.8S & 1.8SL models
  • Wood appearance film added to: Instrument panel and door lock switches
  • Glove compartment light for 1.8S & 1.8SL models is deleted
  • Auxillary-Input to Base Radio is added
  • i-Pod control to Upper Grade Radio is added
  • CD6 in-dash changer function is deleted
  • Fabric and finsher changes for 1.8S, 1.8SL Sedan, and 1.8SL Hatchback
  • New SL trim interior is now standard for Sedan SL and Hatchback SL models with beige interior
  • New SL Sport interior is now standard Hatchback SL with charcoal interior
  • Exterior color Sonoran Sand (paint code HAB) is deleted
  • Exterior color Super Black (paint code KH3) is no longer available with Beige interior color
  • ABS & VDC are now standard for 1.8 SL trims and optional for 1.8 S trim models
  • ABS is now standard for 1.8S trim models
  • Steering wheel lock when key is removed feature is deleted
