Tie Rod End Replacement

Overview:

This will walk you through replacing your worn out tie rod ends.

Difficulty: ***

Cost: ~$70

Materials:

– Tie Rods and hardware (included)

Tools:

– Jackstands, Jack
– Socket wrench
– Crescent wrenches
– Pliers

Procedure:

Begin by placing the front of the car on jackstands, make sure it is secure before you attempt to begin working. Remove the front wheels and turn them to make access easier.

Undo the cotter pin and remove the castle nut:

Slide the boot off the end of the inner tie rod, try not to tear it or you will have to replace it. Unhook the bracket on the inner tie rod and undo the connection.

connect the new tie rod assembly, replace boot or reuse, connect inner and outer making sure you have the same dimensions as the previous tie rod.

Reconnect the outer tie rod to the spindle and secure with the cotter pin:

Reattach the boot.

After putting the wheels back on you can test drive the car to make sure everything is as it is supposed to be. Getting it professionally aligned would also be a good idea.
