Anthony Perez (PEZi720) 1985 Datsun 720 Pickup

This is my ’85 720 pickup. I obtained it from a friend of the family after it had been in an accident and it was not very well taken care of mechanically. Overall the body was decent besides the front end where the previous owner rear ended someone, but the first thing I had to do was get an engine flush because the oil would not even drain itself out.
Over the years, I replaced all the parts involved in the accident with OE replacements (driver side fender, lower valance, grill and front bumper. There were also a few panels that needed pulling around the entire truck. After this work it was repainted, however it was painted what I considered a bit too flashy. A little over a year later it was repainted again to the current look it has. It is currently sporting DuPont HotHues HotRod Black, custom blended to be satin rather than matte finish.

Once the appearance of the truck was taken care of, a friend talked me into ‘doing something with it.’ He talked me into autocrossing the truck. It has been lowered 2.5″ in the front and 2″ in the rear with KYB MonoMax struts in the front and KYB Gas-A-Just in the rear. I also installed heavy duty sway bar endlinks and better bushings throughout. The interior is fully stripped, with the battery riding where the passenger seat used to be.

Under the hood, it still has the stock Z24 engine, with pacesetter headers and a full custom exhaust. All emissions components have been removed throughout the engine, and everything else unnecessary has been removed (headlights, wipers etc.)

The truck is still in the beginning of its build, with a full autocross specific build to come.

It runs in SCCA Solo class EP against old Corolla AE86’s and even our own Datsun 510.
