RADwood SoCal 2021 was awesome!

November 24, 2021 by Greg

The RADwood events are a celebration of the unique automotive lifestyle spanning two decades, 1980 to 1999. The best (and worst) of automotive culture, style, and fashion from the most outrageous era was on full display this past weekend, and as promised, it was totally rad!

Where else can you see Member’s Only jackets, belt-clipped Walkmans, vintage BMX freestyle bikes, big hair, boomboxes, leg warmers, Ray-Bans, neon tank tops, Vans shoes, breakdancing, and hundreds of great 80’s and 90’s vintage cars and motorcycles in one day?

This was the place for all of it. The event was held on the Honda campus in Torrance CA, and since Becky and I were in town for the LA Auto Show, we decided to extend our trip an extra day to enjoy some throwback reminiscing… we weren’t disappointed!

As with all events, I snagged photos of the stuff that interested me, so keep in mind the photos are not all-inclusive. Spending time chatting with the owners of these cars and bikes is always the highlight for me, and there were too many awesome things to absorb. Perfect weather, cool people, great Gen-X music, and a beautiful setting made this the highlight of our trip. Let’s check out some of the awesomeness.

Imports outnumbered domestic cars by far – I wonder if it’s because of their relative longevity compared to American cars of the era, or some other reason? Here’s the domestic contingent:

European cars were well-represented, and there was some amazing eye candy from overseas… I think it’s apparent that I loove Sciroccos, but some of the big-body Benz sedans were stunning as well… By the way, the Audi wagon was an attendee’s car, but I probably drooled over it longer than I should have – Pure sexiness!

…and of course, the stuff you’re all here to see, the Japanese cars. WAY too many to photograph, but the pristine black ’92 SE-R slicktop was my favorite. I had to take a moment to enjoy the metallic blue Honda Elite 150 (I had an identical one in college). The absolutely perfect RX7 had just 5k miles on the odometer, and the black 2nd-gen CRX with super-rare aftermarket goodies was to die for.

We hope you enjoyed the pics as much as we enjoyed our day at Radwood. If you have an opportunity to go to one of their many events, it’s worth the time. Until then, let’s keep those 80’s and 90’s cars on the road and preserved for subsequent generations to enjoy – because we all know, they’re just not as RAD as us!
