S13 Silvia Trunk Lock Conversion – Keep Your Old Key!

December 10, 2009 by Greg

by Armstec_S13

Overview:

Anyone who wants to convert their S13 coupe to “Silvia” status knows what a pain in the arse it is having to deal with an extra set of keys once the leap to the special trunk lock is made. This conversion allows you to retain your 240sx key, a real time-saver!

Difficulty: **

Cost Free (assuming you already have the lock set)

Time: 20 minutes

Materials:

– S13 240sx coupe trunk lock
– S13 Silvia trunk lock

Tools:

– flathead screwdriver

Procedure:

Remove your original trunk lock cylinder. It will look like this:

Next, you want to take the silver cover off of the front of the lock cylinder by using a small screwdriver to lift the edge on the back that holds it on the cylinder like this:

Next, remembering which way is “up” relative to the cylinder – the little bar should be like the first picture shown here – take your small screwdriver and pull the round retainer off so you can take the small spring off like so:

After the clip is removed it will look like this:

Remove the next clip…

when the cylinder is exposed you will be able to see the 8 key pins. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW THE CYLINDER IS ORIENTED!

Remove the cylinder from the Silvia casing by carefully pushing the 4 tabs and sliding it out…

…and you can either re-pin it to match your 240sx unit, or just swap the cylinders in the housings.

If you DO decide to re-pin the Silvia cylinder for some reason, pull one pin from the Silvia cylinder and replace it with the corresponding one from your 240sx unit. it has to be in the EXACT location and position to work, so keeping the cylinders oriented is very important!
