At 14:46 JST today (11MAR2011), a strong earthquake hit Northern Japan. The following is a report related to Nissan operations.
<Facilities>
– Iwaki Plant (Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture), Tochigi Plant (Kawachi County, Tochigi Prefecture), Yokohama Plant (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Oppama Plant (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Zama Operations Center (Zama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) all suspended operations immediately.
– Small fires broke out at the Tochigi Plant and the Iwaki Plant casting facilities but have been extinguished.
<Employees>
– Evacuations have begun at locations close to the coastline, where tsunami warnings have been issued.
– Two employees at Tochigi Plant suffered minor injuries.
– The company has advised employees to remain inside facilities where it is safe. However, those who are able to walk home are allowed to leave their offices based on their personal discretion.
– Power outage confirmed at the Nissan Technical Center (Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture). Employees who were remaining in that facility are now evacuating to the Nissan Advanced Technology Center (Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture) nearby.
<Plans after tomorrow>
– Plants will suspend operations originally planned for Saturday March 12 and Sunday March 13.
– Operations after Monday, March 14, for all plants and facilities including the Global Headquarters (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), will be decided after all assessments including suppliers, are conducted tomorrow, March 12.
<Dealerships>
– Some dealerships in the Kanto region (area surrounding Tokyo) have reported damage. Reports regarding dealerships in Northern Japan are yet to be confirmed.

On March 11, at 14:46 JST, a strong earthquake hit Northern Japan. The following is an update regarding operations at Nissan.
<Plants/Facilities>
– Iwaki Plant (Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture), Tochigi Plant (Kawachi County, Tochigi Prefecture), Yokohama Plant (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Oppama Plant (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Zama Operations Center (Zama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Honmoku Wharf (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture) have reported some damage to its buildings and/or equipment.
– Damage has been reported to 1,300 U.S.-bound vehicles at the Port of Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture.
– Damage has been reported to 1,000 vehicles stored at the Miyagi Service Center (Tagajo City, Miyagi Prefecture) due to tsunamis.
<Employees>
– On the night of March 11, approximately 1,500 employees in plants and facilities remained on site. However, as public transportation gradually resumed services from Saturday morning (March 12), all except those in the Emergency Management Office have left the facilities.
<Affiliate companies>
– Nissan Shatai and Nissan Kohki, located in the Kanto region (area surrounding Tokyo), which produces vehicles and powertrains respectively, reported some damage to its buildings and/or equipments. There are no reports of injuries regarding employees of affiliate companies.
<Dealerships>
– We believe that dealerships in Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures, which are prefectures nearest the epicenter, have suffered severe damage. We have not yet confirmed the safety of all employees in our dealerships. Regarding dealerships in the Kanto region (area surrounding Tokyo), some damage to facilities have been reported, but no reports of injuries have been received.
<Operations for Monday, March 14>
– All production facilities (Oppama, Yokohama, Tochigi, Iwaki, Kyushu (Kanda Town, Fukuoka Prefecture)) will suspend operations.
– We expect Global Headquarters (Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture), Nissan Technical Center (Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture) and Nissan Advanced Technology Center (Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture) to be operational.
<Forecast for operations after March 15>
– No decision has been made as we are continuing to assess the damage to our facilities and equipment, as well as discussing parts delivery with our suppliers.
<Other>
– In response to a request from Yokohama City, Nissan opened its Global Headquarter facilities to the public the night of March 11, and provided shelter for approximately 150 people, providing them with supplies such as blankets and water.
